FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What are Open Graph tags?

Open Graph (OG) tags are meta tags that control how your page appears when shared on social media platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack, and iMessage. They define the title, description, image, and URL shown in the preview card.

What's the ideal OG image size?

The recommended OG image size is 1200x630 pixels (1.91:1 aspect ratio). This works well across Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Slack. Use PNG or JPG format and keep file size under 1MB for fast loading.

Do I need both OG tags and Twitter Card tags?

Twitter will fall back to OG tags if Twitter Card tags aren't present, but it's best to include both. Twitter Cards give you more control over how your content appears on Twitter/X, including the card type (summary vs. summary_large_image).

Why does my shared link show the wrong image?

Social platforms cache OG data aggressively. If you've updated your OG tags, use Facebook's Sharing Debugger or Twitter's Card Validator to clear the cache. Also check that your og:image URL is absolute (not relative) and publicly accessible.

Do social meta tags affect SEO?

Social meta tags don't directly affect search rankings, but they significantly impact social sharing engagement. Better previews lead to more clicks and shares, which drives traffic and can indirectly improve SEO through increased brand awareness and backlinks.
